Only Two Hours a Week
Sometimes running an internet business sounds so simple. Especially when you read the sales letters.
Plug and play. Click and profit. Autopilot. Set and forget.
But with most of these programs you find out that you’re going to be following all the other boats after the same pool of fish and trying to take advantage of the lowest common denominator. Your site and business don’t really stand out, only rise – and inevitably fall – with the movement of the tides. And that’s if you do well. If you come in too late you may be grabbing the scraps at the edges.
Good programs do exist, but all the ones I’ve personally seen take work, either by you or someone you pay to do it.
Just Five Simple Steps
Sometimes running an internet business sounds so simple. Especially when you read some of the forum posts.
Put up a site with a free ebook and an opt-in form. Drive traffic to it. Sell affiliate products to your list.
But that’s simple in the way cooking your mother’s first-rate pie is simple. You follow the recipe on the card and it comes out okay, but isn’t what you were expecting.
That mouth-watering, highly anticipated taste that makes the pie excellent instead of okay comes from the little tweaks and changes she’s made over the years, sometimes without even realizing it. Practice, experimentation, and subtleties make it great.
Quality is Simple but Not Easy
I believe that you and I can succeed at creating internet businesses but that simple and easy aren’t always the same thing.
Taking shortcuts just puts you on the edge of fleet and not putting in the effort just leaves you with okay pie.
Long-term success depends on quality, either in the information you put out or the method you use or the people you employ. Recognizing and structuring quality takes a little more thought and a little more effort.
Yes, there’s the guy who got lucky. True enough. But would you rather spend your time chasing your luck or building something you can be proud of? I find the second option potentially more satisfying.
